Old habits die hard!

Apologies for the lack of posts over the past month or so, a well-deserved break was needed and dealing with personal experiences in my local hospital!
Well as the headline suggests it fails to amaze me when I return to work in the clinical setting to hear of experiences and witness attitudes that I thought had been extinguished with the nightingale wards, but alas they still exist. If we are going to improve the care given to patients and the flow of patients through the acute pathway that should ultimately create a better patient experience then we should be looking at our clinical areas for ways to increase efficiencies where there are obvious issues.
Again, a lot of this boils down to a lack of communication and leadership in areas where this is needed most. If clinicians at all levels fail to communicate effectively then the whole system falls apart.
Also, I was of the understanding that there is a no blame culture in the NHS and that we are striving to look at what went wrong and what we can do to improve matters rather than pointing the finger and making individuals feel worthless and undervalued. I obviously cannot go into detail regarding my experiences or the experiences of others but I am utterly disgusted at the attitudes of senior staff members who feel it is their god given right to lord over their subordinates when all they are trying to do is provide a high level of patient care in conditions that are stressful and compromised by lack of sound process.
All this achieves is an atmosphere that promotes bad attitudes and a lack of drive which is very dangerous when you are dealing with patient care as we are in danger of becoming complacent at times when we are required to be at the top of our game.
So, I urge those in positions of authority to think before they act and give the respect that is due to their staff who are the people that provide effective healthcare to those in need and should not have to put up with inflated egos in the workplace. Let us all work together to make the patient and staff experience a better one.
